How to Make Your Own Bath Bombs

All bath bombs are made pretty much the same way. There’s very little difference among recipes. Play with the recipes in this page, and find the oil and molding method you prefer. You may or may not want to dry them in your oven. It’s purely a matter of what process you like best.

Step-by-Step Guide to DIY Bath Bombs

  • Before you begin, you will want to make sure that you have everything you will need on hand. Get your mixing bowls, whisk, and molds ready and nearby.
  • Measure your dry ingredients into your larger bowl. Mix them thoroughly with a whisk, breaking up any clumps and making sure that the mixture is uniform throughout.

  • Measure your liquid ingredients into the smaller bowl or measuring cup. If there are liquid colorants being added, make sure that they are thoroughly incorporated and that the resulting liquid is uniform throughout.

  • Very slowly, drizzle the liquid ingredients onto the dry ingredients while mixing together. It is important at this point not to add the liquid ingredients too quickly, or you may wind up activating the batch, ruining the bath bombs. Continue stirring until the mixture is uniform throughout. It should be the consistency of wet sand.

  • Add the citric acid (if recipe stated), and continue stirring to distribute the citric acid throughout the bath bomb mixture.
  • Gently pack the mixture into your molds. If using hard plastic or metal molds, pack them, then carefully remove them from the molds and place them on a towel to dry. If you are using flexible molds, such as silicone or soft plastic, you will need to leave the bath bombs in the mold to dry completely before removing.

  • Once your bath bombs are completely dry, you will need to immediately seal them in an airtight container to keep them from any humidity, to avoid accidental spoiling or activation.
  • That’s it! Your bath bombs are ready for use. You typically want to use them within 6 months if you want them to remain active.
