I believe most people love bath bombs like I do, mystified by their fizzing, aroma and the glitter that covered the bathroom. It is very easy to DIY your own bath bombs with all-natural and organic ingredients; and here I will show you the simple way to make it. With the amazing amount of fragrances, botanical and ingredients available and the simple level of skill involved, you also can make together with your kids to make as a treat for themselves or as unique homemade gifts for others.
Yield:
Quantity of finished bombs will depend on your chosen mold
Equipment:
- Fine mist spray bottle
- Silicone molds or ice cube trays
- Measuring cup
Ingredients:
- 450g (1lb) bicarbonate of soda
- 225g (8oz) citric acid
- Filtered water for spritzing
- 10 drops of rose geranium essential oil
- 5 drops of lavender essential oil
- Handful of rose petals
- 10g ( 1 ⁄ 4 oz) cocoa butter chips
Directions
- Combine the citric acid and bicarbonate of soda well in the bowl to ensure an even 2:1 ratio throughout.
- Add the drops of rose geranium and lavender essential oils and stir well, breaking down any lumps that appear.
- Cut the cocoa butter chips into small crumbs and add with the rose petals, stirring well to combine.
- Fill the fine mist spray bottle with water and spray the mixture two or three times, stirring quickly to combine. If the mixture starts to fizz when you spray it, stir well and the fizzing should stop. Repeat the spraying and stirring until you have a crumbly consistency and the mixture stays together when you squeeze it in your hand.
Technique Tips
- While you can purchase special molds to make the traditional round bath bombs, they are really not necessary. Silicone cake molds, ice cube trays or even egg boxes make perfectly good substitutes.
- If the mixtures starts to dry out while you are filling the molds, spray it a few more times with water to moisten it again. If the mixture becomes too wet, add additional bicarbonate of soda and citric acid in the 2:1 ratio and stir well to combine.
