Cold Process Soap Making Directions

  1. Start with weighing all of your ingredients according to the recipes.
  2. Place the water in a stainless steel bowl, gently add the lye and keep stirring. The reaction will take place and the water will be heated. Do not let the water boil, do not inhale the smoke. Set aside to cool.
  3. While waiting the lye solution to cool down, add the oils to the stainless steel pan and gently heat until the oil melts. Set aside to cool
  4. When the lye solution and oils are both about 100°F to 120°F (38°C to 49°C), it’s time to mix them together. Slowly add the lye solution to the oils. (Once the oils and lye are mixed together, the
chemical reaction starts and the mixture becomes soap quickly!) Now use the immersion blender to mix thoroughly.
  5. Blend your mixture until reach trace where it will look something like a thick custard.
  6. Once the oils and lye are fully mixed, it’s time to add fragrance, color, or other additives to the soap. Do not use the immersion blender for this; just mix them in with a whisk.
  7. Pour the mixture into the molds and cover them with a blanket. Keep them away from sunlight
  8. Let the mold sit for about 24 hours, then remove the blanket and lid and let the soap air again in the mold for a few hours.
  9. Now the soap are hard enough to be removed from the mold. If it is still a bit soft, then wait another 1 day before demolding.
  10. Demold the soap and cut it into small bars.
  11. Place the soap bar at the drying rack for 4 to 6 weeks. Make sure the soap separated and do not touch each other and remember to turn them at regular intervals so that all sides are evenly dry.
